COMPLETED - lookup Tasmanian Birth - William BATES

I am looking for the birth if possible of

William Bates born about 1899.... died 27 Apr 1948 Melbourne, Vic
married to Teresa Collins, in June 1930 Melb. Vic

his middle name on the death register is Lloyd but this may be an error.

His father was William Bates from Ulverstone, Tas. and mother Johanna Williams

I have looked on the Tas link site and found a BATES, WILLIAM REGINALD b 1897 d 1898 to a similar named couple and wondering if there were more births to this couple after that?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks for that information on William Reginald.

You've confirmed that William Reginald died in 1898 but I was hoping that it was an error and that it might be another William Bates that had died in 1898.

Thanks also for the info on the other siblings, I was hopeful that they may have had another son that they named William but it seems not.

Both the marriage certificate and death certificate for the William Bates I'm researching, list William Bates and Johanna as his parents and farmers from Ulverstone but i can't locate another couple with those names from that area.

Hi Merlin,

Yes i have been on trove and found notices for various members of the Willam and Joanna Bates family of Ulverstone.

Joanna's husband William Bates died in 1925 and it mentions a son William amongst the mourners, so there has to be another son William born to them other than William Reginald who died in 1898.

That son William is also mentioned in a news item about an inquiry into the death of William Bates as it was due to poisoning.

Hopefully someone can locate the other Williams's birth.
