Hiya

I am trying to compile some information on our family event,
Vincent Micheal Horrocks 1941 - 1961
Julia Sharp 1941 - 1961
Anthony Vernon Horrocks 1938 - 1967 (died later in turkey from related head injuries)

They had been at a party in Horsforth, Leeds on the 11 August 1961 and were driving back to Barnsley (where the Horrocks'were from) when the hit a fairground bus head on on the old Barnsley road, in Notton in the early hours, Mike and Julia Killed at the scene. (not sure who was to blame)

As both my great grand parents never really spoke about this event, and of course the information's mostly lost now I am trying to find out whatever I can, I have been to Archives in Barnsley and there is a section from the second inquest, but that is it, Id like to find out whatever else I can does anyone have any ideas where I might look?

thanks in advance

Did you try looking at the local newspapers at Barnsley Archives?  If you can't get there easily again, I'm sure the staff will look it up for you as you have the accident date.

Good luck
Sandra

I have a subscription to British Newspaper Archives but unfortunately it only goes up until 1949.

Have you thought of putting something in the local newspaper?
There will be people still alive who might remember the sad event or even who knew the youngsters who died.

I think that might be my next move, I've tracked down siblings of Julia's in Ashton Under Lyne, and i think i might put a note in the paper :)

Hello, I am Julia's sister. I was only a baby when she died. I hope you get this message as my brother who was a couple of yrs younger than Julia may be able to help with your questions.

Diane won't be able to get your message until she has two or three posts.  If Diane reads this and acknowledges it - anything will do, like "noted" - you will then be able to exchange private messages.
