Hi topaz,Bow bells are in the city of London and not Bow in East London.Holborn,Covent Garden,St lukes Clerkenwell and Southwark, just over the river are the true Bow Bells areas.
The church is St Mary Le Bow,in Cheapside, although many people confuse it with the church in East London
Hope this does not cloud the issue,im just giving you this info in case your relative could be found in these areas.
Good luck.
Lawrence.

Topas
They werent as thorough as that in their recruiting.
A change of name and date of birth and enlisting in another location could enable what you have just said.
If I remember correctly, early WW1 there was an amnesty for pre war deserters too unsure how long the amnesty was for.

I have taken another look at the army record for Matthew Hedges and there are a few things

1 Do you now belong to the Army ect, reply Yes, The 15th Middlesex V C R
2 After it states to the R M S I,  23 Oct 1906 there is an additional date underneath this Hounslow 26 Oct 1906
3 It looks like that there was a white strip of paper at the bottom of this page which as been ripped off.
