I am researching my mothers family who came from Suffolk in the Needham Market area.   I can track them back to a William Rozier born in 1789 at Great Blakenham who I think married a Sarah Cook (dob 27/8/1784) at Barking, St Mary in 1812.    They had  daughter Sarah Rozier born in 1819 at Needham Market, who died in March 1899 in Ipswich.   She married a Charles Ribbans.
I am trying to research the maternal line back from Sarah Cook (1784)..
I believe that William Rozier's parents were Henry Rosier and Francis Mann
Can anyone help?

Hi David.
Checking a few things on Rozier etc.  Sarah Cook I have a note was born in Earl Stonham and William could have been born in Needham Market. Pretty sure his parents were John Rozier married Sarah Borley 12.3.1784 at Creeting All Saints.  Henry and Francis Mann no relation as they lived Pakenham.John and Sarah lived Needham Market where John died 3.4.1840.  Possibly Sarah's parents were Robert and Sarah.
Don't know where Sarah and Charles Ribbans married but probably Needham as all their children born there. No more yet on earlier Ribbans but I will look at some CD's I have bought from Suffolk History Society where I am a member. So bye for now. Denis

I have Rosier's/Rozier's in my tree. Margaret Rosier who wed John Fairweather in 1760 in Monewden, and I think she was from Wetherden originally. Seems to be quite a common name in the Stowmarket/Wetherden area.

Thanks to both of you for your help.    I am researching my mothers maternal line which starts in Suffolk in the  18th century and ends up in East London around the 1870's.   I am pretty sure of the marriage of Charles Ribbans (born 1821 in Blakenham, died 1882 in Ipswich) to Sarah Rosier (born 1819 in Needham Market and died 1899 in Ipswich)
I think her mother was Sarah Cook (born 27/8/1784 in Earl Soham, and married in 1812 in Barking.   It is this link that is causing me trouble.   My records show that Sarah Rosier had a daughter Frances Anna Ribbans who was born in Ipswich 6/8/1852.   By a curious twist of fate my wife's maternal line came from Old Newton (Edney Maria Miles and before that Mattock).
I am visiting Suffolk this June with a view to visiting the former towns/villages and also to look at the arc hives in  Ipswich.    David Hillyer

Hi all,

If I may chip in here as I have  a Charles Ribbans who married  Sarah Rosier 27-11-1842 Barking St.Mary, Suffolk (confirmed by the Suffolk FHS).

They had at least 10 children one of whom was Frances Ann Ribbans (bapt. 17-9-1852 Ipswich) - m - William Gerrod (Gerrard) Hardy 1872 Ipswich Dist.

Sarah Cook bapt. 27-8-1784  Barking St.Mary (d/o Robert Cook  & Sarah) m - William Rozier 16-8-1812 Barking St.Mary, Suffolk

I have found 3 children born to William & Sarah;
Mary Ann 1814  died 1869
Sarah      1819     "    1899
Harriet      abt. 1831

There may be more I haven't found.

However, there is  (1841 & 51) an Ellen Rosier born 1839 Needham Mkt whose birth is registered with no mother's maiden name suggesting she is the d/o. of one of  William & Sarah's children.

Ellen married Stephen Sillitoe 1859 Ipswich Dist.

I hope these entries help as a I'm a "ribbans" and have an interest in this line.
