Fenian jim Russell
« on: Sunday 04 March 12 01:43 GMT (UK) »
Family folklore says we are related to Fenian jim Russell shot @ Ballyhurst 6 mar  1867, (aged 22)death registered by Catherine Russell(house holder)He is buried in Lattin & there is a monument in lattin which says he's from the area, given his age at time of death he should have been born about 1845.
Our gg grandmother was Mary Russell, we think this is connection she was 20 when she  got married in solohead in 1866. can't find her birth cert either.
Can anybody throw some light on this or direct us where to go next?

Civil registration of births started in 1864 so there will be no birth certificate for Mary. Since marriages usually take place in the bride's church that might be the place to start looking for a baptismal record for her (if church records go back far enough).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Lattin parish records only start in in Dec 1846 might be too late find a birth baptismal record for Jim Russell. Did you get a marriage cert for Mary Russell ? And do you know in which parish she was born as the Solohead/ Oola parish records start in 1809.

Mary was married in solohead in 1866 aged 20 according to marriage cert, we will have to see if she was baptised there and go from that. lets hope she was born there & not in Lattin as we believed as their records only start in 1846, we believe birth years to be Mary 1846 and Jim 1845.
