East End Road, East Finchley

I'm trying to find info about a place on East End Road in East Finchley during WW2.
It's name was something like "Prenton" and was either a nursing home or a place for unmarried mothers.
Any info would be much appreciated.

hi,dont know if this is the same building,,but this lady is reminiscing about her life and describes moving into a house called Prenton on the East End Road...  doesnt mention anything about its former..or later use,,,but if it is the same building,,,she gives a great description of it.

If you keep turning the pages of the article you do come to a page where she leaves and she thinks it became a nursing home.

Have you tried looking at Google earth?  Look for East End Road.  Follow the road westwards.

I have an old map of East Finchley and my guess would be that Prenton is between the Five Bells and Trinity Road.  Some of those houses on that side of the road are still there and from memory they were very large.

Thanks all for your help, very informative.

Basically it was regarding an unmarried mother who had a baby by a Canadian pilot.  The birth address was
Prenton.  She gave up the child for adoption before marrying someone else the same year.

My name is Joy, I am currently living in NZ. But I was at Prenton, 157 (or 159) East End Road, East Finchley from 10 days old to 8 years old.
I came across your post when I put in a search on goggle just wondering what happened to the place. I was there from early 1951 to 1959/60. What would you like to know?
I had a hard job trying to get into the Roots chat site. Don't know how I get  a message to back from you - but I will try and remember to google site again in next few days.

Most of the babies went to Australia , Canada and South Africa for adoption there.
The house is still there - I saw it on goggle earth.

Hello Joy – What kind of a place was 'Prenton', East End Road, Finchley? I know someone who was there as a baby for a short while in 1960, but he was adopted in England, rather than overseas. Any information gratefully received!
