Myshall Colliers
« on: Monday 27 February 12 23:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to find out information on the Colliers of Myshall. Peter Fenlon Collier was one of them but I am more interested in the family that stayed behind here in Ireland. His Grandfather was Abel Collier who married Anne Cooke around 1820 but thats as much as I know. If anybody knows anything about Abel or his son Robert I would be grateful.

Hi

According to www.irishgenealogy.ie a number of Collier children were baptised in Aghold Parish, Carlow.

Robert Collier and his wife Mary had their son Abel baptised in Aghold Parish, in 1831. Could Robert have been following common naming patterns and calling his son after his father.  In otherwords, could this Robert be the son of your Abel?

Cheers

Thanks L.H,
I did see that Abel but this year is not right. The Abel I am looking for was married to an Anne Cooke not a Mary. The Abel I am looking for is the grandfather of Peter Fenlon Collier of the publishing company. He was born in 1844 so the Abel I am looking for would want to have been born around 1770.

Yes rathmore thats the correct collier line that I am looking for. I was actually up in Myshall last Saturday and I saw the engraved stone on the wall of the old St Finians Church. It was very hard to read though but I could make out most of it eventually but I could have one or two of the dates a bit wrong. I am trying to find brothers for Robert to see can I tie him into my family.

Have you asked the Local Paper for help. After all the Colliers were one of their own that did well.
If you use google search engine or ask Jeeves, then type in the search box, Colliers of Myshall
came across a baptism for a Anne mother Cath Finlon Father Robert Collier
will not let me back on the site will try again

Thanks again rathmore for your efforts and input. Its much appreciated. I have not tried the papers yet but I have trawled the internet using google for weeks now and think I have exausted it. I did find that Anne too and she is the right one, she was called after her father's mother. I also came across a John but I can't find him again now. I was hoping to try and find brothers for Robert. I think I will have to go to Dublin some day to the national library. I have not tried Ask Jeeves so maybe I will do that now. Thanks again.

Since you mentioned searching the National Library I assume your Colliers were RC ?

Parish records for the RC parish of Myshall are available on microfilm Pos. 4198, and include baptisms from 1822, and marriage from the same year. There are some gaps - i.e. parts of of 1846, and some pages in the marriages are damaged or missing.
