Which is Which?
« on: Sunday 26 February 12 19:58 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I have found the marriage for my 4x great grandfather, John Riley. He married Jane Labron in 1797 in Leeds - St. Peter's.  I know they had 1 son named, John born abt 1806 in Leeds and I have this John traced down to the present day. His marriage is also recorded in St. Peter's records.  (He named his son Riley Labron Riley - not pertinent info but I have never come across anyone whose first and last name are the same)

By sheer chance I came across a burial record for a Henry Labron Riley, who I am going to assume for now is one of John and Jane's children and a brother to John.  Henry died in 1847 at the age of 45, so his birth year would be about 1802. His burial is recorded in the St Peter's records. However, I cannot find a baptism for him.

My question is this: There are about 5 John Riley's baptized in St. Peter's around 1806 who have a father named John. Is there any way of determining which John (son of John and Jane) would be the one I am searching for? If I do find Henry's baptism and his father's name is John will that tie the brothers together? I hope this makes sense!

Henry Labron Riley s/o John was born February 17 1802 and baptised 14 March 1802.  the address given for the family is Mill Hill.

Baptisms at St Peter of children of a John Riley.

John Riley  born 12 November 1800  baptised 11 Jan 1801  address Wood Street

Mary Ann Riley  born 21 October 1798 baptised 23 December 1798 address Mill Hill
John Riley    born 29 February 1804      baptised       29 April 1804          Mill Hill
John Riley   born 13 September 1806  baptised   6 July    1807         Mill Hill

It looks as though the Wood Street John is a different family, but if the two later Johns are the same family, and the 1804 one died, I can't see a burial for him.

I'm researching my connection to an individual called Grimshaw Grimshaw.  It happens!

Thank you Galium! I searched through those baptism records page by page looking for Henry Labron Riley. Obviously I missed it! Your help is very much appreciated!

PFG

When the first name and surname are the same, I find searching for their records to be much easier!
