Where is Snig Hole?
« on: Sunday 26 February 12 10:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I have a margaret Taylor b 1833 in Snig Hole, Haslingden. Other members of her family are also there.

I have tried to scour various maps that are of this area but have had no luck so far.

Thanks

Snig is ye olde lancastriane for 'eel'. No prizes for guessing what was there once upon a time.

I was down there yesterday. It's a lovely place to be.
I have attached a picture from around 1905.

hi,
what a superb photo!
I saw the cottages on Flickr and am hoping to go and see for myself in the next week or so

Don't fancy eating eels though!
