Help please.
« on: Thursday 23 February 12 22:42 GMT (UK) »
I dont know if Im allowed to post this card or not. Looking for any help in finding any info on this man.He is a distant relative of a friend and there no known living relatives. Is the reg  number 43 on the top of the card his Regt number or is it for official use only. I have never seen such a short number. All we know about him is that he came from a place called Hugginstown, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland and that he was reportedly KIA at the Somme. Any info gratefully appreciated. Many thanks in advance.  jakel

Hi Jakel,
43 is indeed his number.
He was actually KIA at Gallipoli in 1915:

Hi Neil1821. Boy, that was quick. We tought he was from Hugginstown, but that is only two miles down the road from Newmarket. Spot on. Any idea why the number is so short?  Any idea what the initials in the action taken section are. My friend has the three medals but none are named or numbered. Is this not unusual? Again many thanks for your fast and very helpful input.  Regards jakel

Thanks guys and gals for your help.   MMM45 the link you gave will not open.    CATH151 I dont have access to findmypast but the rest of your info was amazing. You said John Daly had at least three brothers, one of whom was called Patrick. After a little more digging we discovered that the said Patrick was married to my Aunt. We never knew he had a brother John. We feel really stupid that the evidence was in front of our eyes all the time. Amazing the way a small bit of info brings a much bigger picture to completion. Thank you so much.
