I have to disappear for a few hours but will check back when I get home.  Will see what else I can find if no one else has picked up on this thread by then.

Cheers

Back again.

Fairly sure that this is the James A HOPES from the 1901 Census I sent earlier... mother most likely to have been Matilda HOPES.

Back to the TURNER family...

This might be useful in tracking down Charles TURNER, father of John Thomas TURNER.

1871 Census England Staffordshire West Bromwich South West
RG10/2982/17/27
32 Fisher Street

TURNER
Charles Head Marr 27 Miner Ludlow Shropshire
Susan Wife Marr 22 West Bromwich Staffordshire
Richard Son Unmarr 1 West Bromwich Staffordshire

Given that Charles and Susan TURNER had a daughter Rebecca, and that Charles was born Shropshire and living in Staffordshire, then this might be Charles TURNER as a young man....

1861 Census England Staffordshire Tipton
RG9/2044/120/30
Horsley Heath

TURNER
John Head Marr 63 Coal Miner Shropshire
Rebecca Wife Marr 65 Shropshire
Mary Dau Unmarr 29 Seamstress Shropshire
Sarah Dau Unmarr 25 Seamstress Shropshire
John Son Unmarr 23 Coal Miner Shropshire
Edward Son Unmarr 21 Coal Miner Shropshire
Charles Son Unmarr 19 Coal Miner Shropshire
George Son Unmarr 17 Coal Miner Shropshire
Timothy Son Unmarr 3 Scholar Staffordshire Tipton

I have my doubts about Timothy belonging to John and Rebecca... more likely he is the son of one of the older girls...

In 1851 Charles birthplace is given as Cainham Ludlow Shropshire

Baptism Register
Caynham Shropshire
Children of John and Rebecca TURNER

Richard 11th Dec 1831
John 21st Aug 1836
Edward 4th Aug 1839
Timothy 1st Nov 1841
Benjamin 1st Nov 1841
Charles 25th May 1843
George 18th Jan 1846

The best way to make sure that all that I have listed here is correct is to purchase the relevant Birth, Death and Marriage certificates.  That way you will know for sure that you are following the right family.

It was your brother Alison that I did all of this research for and forwarded it on to you via email some years ago.
