parish records - KELLS family - Drum, Co Monaghan, COI
« on: Thursday 23 February 12 00:05 GMT (UK) »
Looking any information on the Kells family which left the area around 1946.  They had farmed in Neddiagh (possibly misspelt) for generations.   My grandfather was Thomas (Tommy) Kells born in c1892 and died in Fivemiletown in June 1951.  Brother Samuel DAVID moved to Lisnaskea along with his wife Mame and went into business (SD Kells).  Great grandfather was Francis Kells who died c1915.  Mother was Mary Faulkener??? possibly.  Another brother John Joseph served with the 9th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles in the Great War and was killed by a shell on 1st July 1916.  Any further information on this family and previous generations greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Michelle

Welcome to Rootschat. There was an article in the Belfast Newsletter not that long ago about SD Kells- see here

This looks like the family in 1901 census- Neddaiagh in Co. Cavan:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Cavan/Drumcarn/Neddiagh/1047130
here in 1911-

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Not sure if your still looking for family history on the kells family from
Neddiagh but if u are I have more details. My grand father was Samuel
David kells. My late cousin traced the family back to 1760,s in that area.

Hi I'm not sure if you got my last reply or not but I am looking any information you may have from before the 1840s-50s.  My mam is Lavina Kells, who's father was Tommy Kells, a brother of Samuel.  I have heard of my mam talk about her uncle David and some other members of the family such as Roy,  but she can't tell me too much as her father died when she was very young.  Her older sister would have had information but unfortunately she has now passed over too.  Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks
Michelle
