As you said these are the correct spelling.  Benjamin was spelt Smitzer on the 61 and smelzer on the 71.  Joseph was spelt schmetzer on 71.  Joseph was the one I was really hoping you would find on the 61.  He is my great grandfather and I have nothing between his baptism in 1827 and the 1871 census.

I have looked for Joseph using forename, age and birthplace with wide variations and cannot find him. Quite annoying
