St. Werburgh, Ranelagh and Chapelizod Cemeteries
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 21:04 GMT (UK) »
Hello from Canada,

I am looking for the final resting place for my Irish ancestors. What cemeteries are in these areas? I am looking for Thomas Tudor died prior to 1791, Mary Collins Tudor who died 1791 and lived on Abbey Street. Harriet Tudor died 11 Sept 1814 Chapelizod, Rachel Tudor 27 Feb 1813 Chapelizod, Mary Tudor Fleming Dec 1824 St. Audeon, Elizabeth Tudor died 21 April 1836 Cullenswood, Isabella Tudor died 10 Dec 1846 Ranelagh and Charlotte Tudor Jackson died 22 Oct 1846 Ranelagh. Thomas Jackson Charlotte Tudors husband died in 1824 Ranelagh?

St. Werburgh - I know they were baptised there and did not survive into adulthood: Walsimgham, William, Mary.

Thanks for any help,

Julie

For details of Dublin Cemetaries see this topic in the Dublin Resources section :

     DUBLIN GRAVEYARDS

A number of parishes have death/burials included on the IrishGenealogy website - mostly Church of Ireland, including St. Werbugh and Chapelizod. Death/Burial records are often quite basic - often just a name and sometimes an age and address.

I dont think there's any cemetery in Ranelagh.

Thanks for the information. If they lived in that area and were Church of Ireland where would they be buried? I think I am going to have to hire someone to track them down it is hard to this from abroad.

Ranelagh was in the civil and CofI parish of St. Peter's. The parish church was on Aungier Street in the city, but is no longer there. When the area was rebuild some of the burials were moved to Mount Jerome.

Records for CofI parish of St. Peters are included on the IrishGenealogy website.

If the family were reasonably well off then it might be worth searching newspapers of the time for death notices etc.. these may mention the church and cemetery used

I think they were well off as the Jacksons are listed as Gents and Thomas Tudor owned 3 properties at the time of his death. Would there be newspapers dating back to the 1780's?

one paper that might be worth trying would be Freeman's Journal - it was published in Dublin and started back in the 1760s.

It's available online on several library and subscription websites - e.g. IrishNewsArchive BritishNewspaperArchive etc

These sites dont always cover the full range of dates - worth double checking they have the date range you are interested in before subscribing.

Even though the address is Cullenswood, that burial is at Chapelizod - the graveyard is just north of the main street in Chapelizod village. Maybe there was an earlier family connection to the Chapelizod area ?

The graveyard at St. Werburgh, is behind the old church on Werburgh Street, close to Dublin Castle.
