Look up, please in Newtonards
« on: Wednesday 15 February 12 11:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to find out who lived with Andrew Dunn in Sun Rose, Millisle, Newtonards in 1935. Is anyone able to look it up for me as I live in England. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joyce

Look up in Newtonards

Hi,
With ref to my previous request for the occupants of Sun Rose, Millisle, Newtonards in 1935, I have recently been advised that this house is a large house overlooking the sea. It may, therefore, be in Main St, Shore St or Donaghadee Rd. Any info appreciated. House owner should be Andrew Dunn. Would like to know who else in property.
Thanks,
Joyce

Thank you, but when I tried the address on website, nothing found. I doubt if they would have previous inhabitants listed anyway.

Directories for that period (PRONI likely to have something but I'm not aware of any online for 1930s) may list Andrew Dunn if he was the head of household and was living there for a while but if he is listed may only give 'Millisle' as address and other people in the household will not be shown.
Sometimes house names, such as "Sun Rose", are kept by new owners but other times the name is dropped or changed.
One thing you can try- use Google StreetView to see if you can spot the house- the name may remain on a pillar or gate, above the front door or on a plaque on the house.

Thanks for that, Is there any way of finding out who else lived in a house apart from the head of the family? Here in England we have electoral rolls with all members of household shown.
Thanks, Joyce

Electoral rolls only show those in a household eligible to vote. I don't see any listed in PRONI catalogue (www.proni.gov.uk) and was told years ago that they are held by the electoral office and not available to the public but not sure if that is true.

Thank you.
We have even resorted recently to advertising in the personal column in the Belfast Telegraph for any relatives of Ida Gamble or her sister Alice but no replies. Back to the drawing board I'm afraid.
