Look Up
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 09:58 GMT (UK) »
Would it be possible for someone to do a Look Up for me please for Great Yarmouth.  I'm looking for a marriage I've seen on FamilySearch, but I would like to know the father's name & occupations of the Bride and Groom, plus Witness names.

I have the following info but unfortunately no CHURCH name given:

John Barwick READING b. 1851 marrying Ann Elizabeth BRISTOW b.1854
Marriage date: 16 November 1876 in Great Yarmouth.
Info off FamilySearch as follows:
Indexing Batch  107379-5
Source Film No. 1596348
Ref.No. Item 10 p.25

Kind regards and thanks in advance of being able to help me

Have you tried getting that information from previous and following Census years? (Apart from Witnesses of course)

 :)

This looks like the married couple in the 1881 census.

RG11/Piece 507 Folio 110 Page 23 in London - Poplar @ 41, Canton Street (sharing a house)

John B. Reading 29 Head born Ramsgate Kent: a Mariner
Ann E. Reading 27 Wife born Norfolk, Yarmouth

so, going back to the 1861 census for example could well find them with their respective parents.

I'm limited on time today, so here's John B (did they name a Sloop after him?  :P ) with his parents Daniel & Johanna in Ramsgate 1861 census:

RG 9/Piece 536 Folio 39 Page 20 Ramsgate @ ?? Place ?

Daniel, born c1807 in Ramsgate was a Master Mariner
Johanna born c1815 in Deal.

John has siblings ..... let me know if you want the entry fully transcribed?

Hi,

Yes I have looked at the census', but there is a possibility of TWO Ann E BRISTOWS marrying, and I feel that the one I'm enquiring about is the right one, but I need to know if her father's occupation is a MARINER, then I hope I was right with my 'instinct'.

Thank you
Hazel

Check out 1861 - RG 9/Piece 1190 Folio 104 Page 4 Yarmouth.

The transcription is incorrect, omitting the Householders name, but there is a Bristow family there .... looks like her mother was also an Ann E - maiden name MANN.

I cant see the Bristow family in 1851 or 1871 ....

btw, there is only one Ann E Bristow registered birth entry (1851-1855) in Yarmouth District.

Yes, I bet they did name a Sloop after him  LOL

I have looked at the census' - I'm more interested in Ann Elizabeth BRISTOW's side and I've got all the census' up to her marriage - I was hoping somebody might just have a disc with Yarmouth marriages on which would show HER father as John Maddison Bristow - Master Mariner, and then that way I would know for certain I had the right female - as I said earlier, there are TWO Ann E Bristows marrying, and the one I think I'm correct on is the one marrying in 1876 to this Reading guy.

Sorry to be a pain, but it's difficult when you don't live in the UK and can't get to places like Yarmouth to check things out for yourself.   But thank you for helping me.

Cheers

The Father in this 1861 census is a Jno (John) - a Mariner.

I cant see TWO Ann E's marrying tho - unless you mean the Ann Eliza in 1872 Yarmouth?

The Ann E with John Reading post 1876 is consistent in showing YARMOUTH as her PoB in later Census.

John B Reading was an apprentice in Yarmouth in 1871, so they prob met there !

Curious as to where you found Ann in 1871 ?

Hi again,

Thought you didn't have a lot of time today :D  You'll never get done with whatever you were doing trying to sort my problem out  lol - it is much appreciated tho.

I found the 1871 on Find My Past as follows:

Piece:
1784  Folio:
75 Page:
12      Registration District:
Yarmouth

Civil Parish:
Great Yarmouth Municipal Borough:
Yarmouth, Great Address:
St George Road, Great Yarmouth, Yarmouth, Great County:
Norfolk

Yes the other marriage I was talking about was Annie Eliza who married somebody named BARNES - My cousin is convinced this is the correct marriage, so we're having a 'fight' about who is right.  We know Ann Elizabeth was born 1853 (tho cousin says 54 - arghh), but this Annie Eliza according to FamilySearch was born in 1850, which would have made her about 14 years old when she married (tho she's saying 18 yrs on FS)

The marriage you've just sent me on another reply is the parents of the Ann Elizabeth Bristow I'm looking for and which I have already on my TREE.

Cheers
Hazel
