Andrew Owen/s
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 07:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

my grandfather Samuel Owen was a Private in the Royal Scots Fusiliers.

One of Samuels older brothers Andrew born Kilsyth circa 1874. Andrew was a baker to trade, lived and married in Greenock.

I was having a wee look at the records and came across an Andrew Owens Private RSF.

My Andrew would have been around 45 at the outbreak of the war, would he have been too old to enlist/be called up? Perhaps he was a regular like his younger brother?

Is there any way I can find out if the Andrew listed is the same one as mine?

kind regards

Tommy Owen

p.s. on various certificates Owen and Owens are used in my family until around the 1900s
Owen/s, Miller, McMillan, Hamilton, Clarke, McCafferty, Rowe, Sinclair, Jamieson. Hanson/Hansen.

Hi - do you have any more info on Samuel Owen? Was he a prisoner of war at all? I am doing some research for an exhibition in Greenock next year - at the McLean Museum
