recording TV prorammes

Which make of disc do you guys use for recording tv programmess ?.

I tend to leave any recording to my better half.
She tells me she prefers a Mitsubishi DVD-RW  because when she deletes programmes the space is aggregated.

With other discs the spaces remain as given up by each programme so deleting 2 half hour slots doesn't allow an hour to be recorded.

The Mitsubishi disc is now old and starting to play up and I can't find anyone who sells them.
Are they available?

I use Sky HD+ - which uses a hard disk!

I use a 'non-Sky' hard drive recorder.  Much better than disc recording.  Keep programmes or delete them at will and no remembering to make sure there's enough disc space for all the recordings.  Series recording is also a bonus.

There are other makes of DVD -RW out there.

I agree, Hard Drive recorders are much better. I have a Humax.

DVD discs are not really meant for recording 'on the fly', so they're best used for archiving, and the advice about using a recorder with a hard drive is a good one.  Regarding where to purchase replacement DVD's, most shops sell them - just look for a well known brand.

When the signals were changed last September, I bought a new Sony tv (cant get on with Freeview boxes) and Sony Hard Disk recorder - its 1TB which is about 600hrs worth of recording, more than I'll ever need.  Took me a couple of weeks to get used to it, but now I find it much better than the old videos etc.

I used to hate Freeview boxes, but the Humax Freeview+ box is very good - the nearest you'll ever get to Sky+.   It even does things which Sky+ doesn't - like warning you that the programme you're watching or recording is available on an HD channel.

Yep Nick the Sony does that as well.  Also has the facility to record two programmes at once and recording a whole series (although I've never done this yet).
