1841 or 1851 census look up surname 'hamplett'
« on: Saturday 14 May 05 22:23 BST (UK) »
Hi

i am looking for a tricky one here, tricky because the surname changes spelling form census to census.

Samuel hamplett/Amplett born 1837 in madeley, shropshire

(also could be under hamphlett, hamplet, Amplet, amphlett, hamfleet  an dnumerous others that i havent come across yet)

other areas to try him being born in are Wellington and wenlock.

it would be great to find samuel on the 1841/51 census and hopefully his parents. any help would be greatly appreiciated.

best wishes
Rachel x

I've checked my transcriptions of Madeley and Wellington 1841 and he doesn't appear to be there, sorry.

This might be the family in 1861, George and Mary are approx. right ages as is older son John and daughter Eliza.

George Humlet 1806  Westmeath, Shropshire, England Head  Madeley  Shropshire
Mary Humlet 1808  Westmeath, Shropshire, England Wife  Madeley  Shropshire
John Humlet 1830  Westmeath, Shropshire, England Son  Madeley  Shropshire
Eliza Humlet 1838  Wellington, Shropshire, England Daughter  Madeley  Shropshire
James Humlet 1842  Wellington, Shropshire, England Son  Madeley  Shropshire
Harriet Humlet 1843  Westmeath, Shropshire, England Daughter  Madeley  Shropshire
Hannah Humlet 1847  Madeley, Shropshire, England Daughter  Madeley  Shropshire
Isaac Humlet 1849  Madeley, Shropshire, England Son  Madeley  Shropshire
Jane Humlet 1852  Madeley, Shropshire, England Daughter  Madeley  Shropshire

RG9/1858
Registration district:    Madeley
ED, institution, or vessel:    12
Folio:    54
Page:    34

Another spelling variation for you! I've checked the image and it does appear to say Humlet. Birthplace however says Wem not Westmeath! Think I saw the marriage of George and Mary (Pitchford from memory) on IGI in Wem earlier this evening but it's bedtime now so I'll leave you to check yourself
