The family were in the 1851 census at Byker before John was born. John is dittoed born Ireland in one census but born Newcastle in every other census .

Thanks J T A - I should have realised with the dates given but didn't check  ::)

How would his baptism though help to trace Catherine?

Not trace Catherine, but Pughy is also looking for John's birth and his mother's maiden name though I realise it is not under this subject. The Catherine McKenna who died 1862 you found may also be in the church burial registers.

I have just had a look at the other thread and see that one certificate has been sent for already which was wrong.
Just for info there is a John McKen in the list for 1854 which could be a misheard version of McCann etc but on the other hand may be McKenna.  :-\
Pughy you could ask for a certificate specifying the parents. It used to be the case that if it couldn't be found the fee would be reduced.

Have you thought if Catherine is not deceased she could have been married twice,

March 1871 Catherine McKenna to Henry Collier,

Gunning County Down,Kneale Isle of Man,Riddle Tynemouth,Bibby Kendal/Bradford,Colenso Penzance/Barrow-in-Furness,Steele Corney Fell,Chapman Ely,Dawes Alfreton,Blamire Westmoreland and Ulverston

Hi Radcliff
Yes it could be a Possibility but on trying to find the marriage you mention Henry Collier in which I was not successful I found 4 other possible Marriages for a Catherine McKenna with Registration District Newcastle upon Tyne in the yrs 1864, two in1871, &  1879,
I think the Marriage to ???? Finnigan to Catherine is the one to try to find but I am not having any luck.
Thank you for Trying
           Kind Regards
Pughy

Perhaps you are too fixed on the notion that Catherine Finnigan was formerly Catherine McKenna. In 1881 there were two other Catherine Finnigans in Newcastle.

J.T.A.

Just noticed, I mistakenly said two other Catherine McKennas when of course I should have said two other Catherine Finnigans which I have altered.

HI All
Just had another thought on James Death Certificate Catherine Finnigan gives her address as
No8 MONK STREET NEWCASTLE I know it is a shot in the dark & 2 years later but is it possible to search the 1881 Census by Address the Address being one of the requirements on the 1881 census.
If it is possible how?
      Regards
