Where would burials be?
« on: Monday 20 February 12 13:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Could anyone help please?
I have two ancestors who died in the district of Castleton Nearer Rochdale in 1859 & 1860. Where would these people be buried?

Many Thanks
  Sue

Hi Derik,

Thanks for the info. Been on the cemetry site but the names aren't there so am thinking they were buried in a churchyard. They was baptised at St Chads but have been on the Lancashire Parish clerks Project site for burials at St Chads & nothing there?

Regards Sue

Where were they in the 1851 census and where were the descendants in 1861?

Bit confused at how you could search for there names off the site i gave you?
All i seen on there was this ?
Cost

There is a charge for this service currently £33 per search carried out.  You can pay by credit or debit card in person or over the phone or by cheque payable to 'Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council' and send to the Rochdale cemetery office

If you can let me know how to search there records i would appreciate it as i might have many family members buried there and at £33 for each would save me a small fortune.

Why dont you just post the names of the people you are looking for,
there are lots of people here who have differnt resources that they will search through,
as Gibel requested the census ,that would be extremly helpfull to post as well
Gunning County Down,Kneale Isle of Man,Riddle Tynemouth,Bibby Kendal/Bradford,Colenso Penzance/Barrow-in-Furness,Steele Corney Fell,Chapman Ely,Dawes Alfreton,Blamire Westmoreland and Ulverston
Dislike the use of P Messaging system, unless its of a sensitive nature, Rootschat is  an open forum,

Thank you all for your replies.
Derik, I googled Rochdale cemetry & on the site a Dave Ollerton has transcribed MI's with so many names but none that I am looking for & I know that doesn't mean to say they are not buried there as they probably couldn't afford a headstone anyway. Hope you have more success.Let me know if you don't get onto it & I will see if I can get back on & look up any names you have.
Gibel, in 1851 Adelaide Wood was married to her first husband John Norbury(many more to follow!!!!!)they married at Manchester Cathedral & were living in hulme on the census. He died 1853 & she married William Mott in 1854 at Mcr Cathedral. They had a child in Hulme then must have moved to Rochdale as Lydia was born 1858 & baptised at St Chads Rochdale. She died 1859 in Rochdale aged 1. Her 2nd husband William Mott died 1860 Rochdale aged 41.both died in the area Castleton Nearer. On 1861 census she was living with my husbands Grt Grandfather Thomas Leech in Dukinfield.
Hope I have put all relevent info for anymore help.
Thank you all so much
   Sue
