Rankin family
« on: Saturday 21 May 11 15:47 BST (UK) »
12th July 1867 in Glasgow, Agnes Rankin married William Pattison - both were born in Ireland. It is not untill the 1901 census that it appears that Agnes was born in ANTRIM. Working back from the various census returns, she would have been born around 1843. On her marriage cert to William, her parents are listed as John Rankin (furniture dealer) and Sarah Hamilton. In both 1881 and 1901, Agnes' brother David Rankin is also living with the family - he was born in 1851. Any further info on any of the family would be most welcome. Thanks.

Wow, Thanks for that. Hugh is certainly right with both parents. There are huge gaps between the three children we have - 1838, 1843 and 1851. Presume there must have been more children but whether they all survived is another matter. At least it gives me a positive place in Antrim so that is a wonderful step forward.

The John Rankin - wholesale bedding manufacturer is a possibility but I have nothing to prove or disprove it, yet. In Glasgow, Agnes was a mill worker (on her marriage cert in 1867) and by 1871 she was a machinest. The Pattison menfolk were hand sewn boot and shoe makers. David rankin was a shipyard labourer in1901.
