ASHWORTH wedding photo ...... is this your family?
« on: Saturday 18 February 12 16:20 GMT (UK) »
Last year at a car-boot sale I picked up a framed picture. I only wanted it for the frame and when I started replacing the picture I came across an old wedding photo underneath. It appears to be a hand-coloured photo of a 1929 wedding of someone called Ashworth. On the back is some faint writing in pencil and although I can't quite make out all of it, my best guess is as follows :-

Ashworth
BTM   ?
12 x 10
Add ...   ?
?
Sept 29

Can you do any better with this? The name, size and date are fairly obvious but what about the rest? More importantly, could this couple be part of your family? I'll gladly forward it to anyone who can convince me of that. Incidentally, the car-boot sale was in Cheshire so that county is probably favourite for the wedding location.

There is a Stanley Ashworth

"Add" ? "Ada"?

I looked at this because my husband has Ashworth ancestors. Not sure if this is his relations.
I would think the letters on the back were annotations made by the photographer.

I agree with you cms ..... the pencilled notes on the back were almost certainly made by the photographer. I think I was wrong in assuming it was September 1929, as it's more likely to be about 1920. See the following Rootschat posting :-

Have you still got this photo Jim?
I think there is a strong possibility this is my husband's Great Uncle - will confer with some family members and get back to you.

Yes. I do still have the photo. Do you know what date your husband's great uncle was married? As I mentioned earlier in this thread, it seems likely that the date of the photo was September 29th around the year 1920. Let me know when you've conferred with your family.

Well I still favour Sept 1929. That fits with Gt Uncle's age, born 1900.

The person who replied to your query about dates might be right, but in Cheshire I guess they were a bit behind the current fashion ;) As for his age on the photo, he does look young, but the picture might be smoothed over.

I have a couple of photos of this uncle, one as a teenager and one in his 60s and the features are very like. More later...

The opinion of the two relatives I have consulted is that it is not their relative. I think they are wrong but hey, it's not my family.
The fact is that he died in Cheshire in 1987 and he was married there in Sept 1929, his eyes are identical to the one in your photo, but that's not good enough apparently. So I will keep a copy of the picture just in case but I will not trouble you to send me the original. (yet!)

Thanks for letting me know Caroline. The original's in a safe place if you ever change your mind!
