Fantastic, wonderful, takes me back another generation, I am so grateful!

Here are my two pictures, nowhere near as helpful.

The first is the Barrett family (William Parish Barrett and Mary Hannah Garnsey Meade and children); unsure of who is who here. The second is a collection of Barretts and Simons - my guess is at a wedding, and the likely hits would be my grandfather Frederic Dyke Sydney Simons' wedding to Nora Penelope Barrett, 19th April 1900, or his brother Dr Charles Edward Glascodine Simons' wedding to her sister Wilhelmina Elizabeth Barrett 27th April 1894.

I've had to compress the files a bit to post them, but I could email full versions via personal message if you like.

Hi I thought I had killed the whole system, it told me, it needed to stop and I had to go away for an hour.....I'm back but it is after 2am......so I have now added the back of Miss Meade....who looks an awful lot like the woman in the first photo...maybe I am being hopeful.....the second photo is of Johanna Apperley (Meade) Gill, who came across on the Bark Calendonia with her husband John Gill (architect) and brother Robert Garnsey Meade and sister, Susan Meade, who wrote the wonderful diary which my friend and I recently visited in the National Library, Canberra (Australia).  Miss Meade went on to be the Nanny to Governor La Trobe and his wife Sophie's children, a very desirable nanny as she spoke fluent French.  Interesting relationship developed between her and Sophie.
I also have a, not particularly good, rendition of Robert Garnsey Meade, from a booklet!
I love your two photos, I can't reciprocate in such glamour as I only have a few DeBoos weddings.
As I told Baby Boomer, we have found out a lot of information about Susan Meade as her husband was compelled to paint so much of the scenery of early Melbourne (only the 1840's not early by your standards), he is also exhibited in the State Library of Victoria, where they hold over 180 of his paintings and sketches, I have a few more photos but am not sure how much of the Austraalian branches of the family actually interest you, good night, Narelle

Graham, wow I hadn't remembered the photo had the details on the front, so thought you were very clever with that link.....so it seems to say mid 1880's,

the Dr Robert Meade one is from..
the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company
                 110 Regent Street,
under the patronage of her Majesty

                and at Cheapside

(feel like I'm in Pride and Prejudice)
at the bottom it seems to say
sole photographers to the international exhibition 1862...
so that puts Robert's photograph in the late 1800's

Do you think that baptism is our Harriet Melhuish??

Really going to sleep now, Narelle

Graham,   don't mean to be a stalker but if that is Mary Hannah Garnsey Meade in that photo you have posted, then I think I have the younger version, they have the same hairline and nose.......do you agree???
Really going this time.....you've left me with some homework for my trees!  Night, Narelle

Graham, just realised, though the time frame looks too late for her to be Miss Meade.....Rodney's grandfather was writing about his Grandmother's relative, so might not have thought about whether she was married at the time or not....but it looks like the photo was taken in 1867 or thereabouts, though the article says the Queen and the Royal family....the photo says the Queen and H.R.H the Prince of Wales, so that might further qualify it....Narelle

Golly Graham, I missed this note....now I have to concentrate, I found the mention of Harriet in Ancestry.....Somerset Extracted Parish records.....24 Apr  1799 24 Jan 1799 Harriet d, of Wm & Joanna Melhuish
Baptisms 1770-1812
Collection Bruton- Parish Registers, 1681-1812

Now you have thrilled me with dates for Robert Axford,....I have him on the tree but have found no record of him anywhere, so dates are thrilling, and him having died early makes more reason to have a second Robert.
Charles too...I had no dates for him either, where did you find those dates?

I've looked at the geography now and I don't really see why, if Harriet was b in Broadclyst, she'd be bap 57 miles away in Bruton - unless there is another story to tell!

My info on Robert Axford Meade, Charles Melhuish Meade and Frances Hurley White Meade all comes from a brass MI in the Lady Chapel at North Curry. I've PMed you a couple of headstones from there, too. Lovely church, loads of history. Angela Dix has written an excellent history, North Curry: a Place in History.
