Aberdare Row
« on: Friday 17 February 12 23:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, I'm currently researching my 2nd great grandmother, Jane Snow. In the 1861 census it shows she was residing as a  servant  in 12, Railway Row, Aberdare. The problem I got is I can't find the street anywhere.I've tried google maps and oldmaps.co.uk with no success. I have found a Railway Street but no Railway Row. It could be that it is  now covered by a modern development. If anyone can help I would be greatful, many regards David.

You could try Aberdare Library. They hold lots of old maps.

Good luck

Hello  :)

Looking at the census, it looks as if it's Cwmaman

i've lived in Cwmaman and wonder if you got any further with the 'Row' you were looking for.  if not will try to help as I know the area was being developed throughout the 1840 onwards.

Assuming it's Railway Row you are looking for, could this be it at www.old-maps.co.uk

Use the search term-Kingsbury Place
Choose one of the Cwmaman,Aberdare options
Choose the 1868-1882 1:2500 option
Use magnifier or Windows zoom to enhance
Railway Row(and Terrace) should be central, next to Kingsbury Place(as in 1881 census).

Regards
Roger
