Hi,
Could anyone give me clues as to how I go about finding out the history of a pub.
My ggg grandfather Richard Cartwright- was a Saddler & Innkeeper at the
Hawkstone Arms i
n New Street, Wem Shropshire.

I don't know if this helps but The Hawkstone Arms, New Street, Wem, is listed in Pigot & Co.'s Directory of
1835
, landlord John Lee.

Hi The Hawkstone was a Wem Ales pub . Wem Ales were taken over by Greenall Whitley Brewerys. Jack Hanby the Head Brewer for Wem Ales took over the old Wem Brewery and now brews Hanby Ales. Greenall's, I believe are a Northen Company from Warrington!!!! (not sure). Jack Hanby's are still based in Wem . Maybe a letter to both could help you with your quest. Good hunting BN.

Hi again. I noticed you have Rellies in your tree from Cheshire. ie. Mottram's. My former Partner was a Mottram from Cheshire . Could there be a link? BN

Have a John Mottram b 1857 Bunbury married to Harriet Wilson b 1857 Bunbury??? Harriet died in childbirth and John Mottram remarried Frances Dutton

The right area Bunbury is close to Nantwich and Crewe which is where her rellies came from. I'll look a little deeper. Her name is Janet and her father is called Kenneth.

found this dated august 1870 sherrett on the 5th inst aged 65 mr william sherrett of the hawkstone arms new street whem just wondering if its an inn
