The best John Medcalf I have found was baptised in Sunderland Holy Trinity

John Midcaff born 16 Oct 1792, baptised 13 Jan 1793 son of Thomas and Uphanna

Janis

That would tally with two of John Metcalf & Mary Oates children being called Thomas & Euphemia

Could this be the marriage of Anthony to Phillis?

Anthony YATES to Philis Robson 14th April 1793 Houghton Le Spring, Durham

Keyboard86

It could well be, the year would be about right, making Phillis 20 when she married  :)

Hi,
I have this family too.
John Metcalf b1792 was the son of Thomas Metcalf and Euphemia Adamson.
I do not know any more about the Metcalfs but I do know Euphemia was the daughter of Cumberland Adamson and Jane Bell
He was born 25 June 1746 at St. Andrews Fife. Named Cumberland after the Duke of Cumberland.
I believe Jane was born 2 Jan 1747 but not 100% sure.
He died 15 June 1826 in Sunderland Poorhouse and she died 16 April 1823 in Sunderland PoorHouse

His father was Robert Adamson b1710 Northbank St. Andrews. Died 14 May 1784 St Andrews. He Was a Maltman Burgess and Guild Brother in St Andrews.
He married Euphem Gosman c1717 in Anstruther Fife. She died 25 Dec 1802 in St Andrews.
His father was Robert Adamson died 4th Nov 1751 at St Andrews. He was a Tennant in Northbank St Andrews and a Guild Brother.
He was married twice His first wife being either Jean or Joan Scott and that was Roberts mother. His second wife was Margaret Donaldson.

Hope this helps.

Hi Janis,
Please could you tell me where you got this birth from?

"Bamburgh, Northumberland baptisms
Phillis Robson baptised 29 Aug 1773 daur of Thomas and Ann Robson of Budle"

Have been looking for her birth for some time but not able to find one that fitted quite right. The parents names also fit in with her children which is a bonus.

I have a transcript of the Bamburgh parish baptisms 1758-1812.  I would imagine this entry is in the Bamburgh parish record.

Funnily enough I am just on my way up to Fife this week to reseach the Adamsons a little more. Hopefully will get something!

So watch this space! ;)

Now I've said that I do hope I can find more out.

Didn't find out anything else about the Adamson's  :'( but found where some of the family lived. :) The Fife area is worth a visit - especially along the coast.
