Registers & admission books. Registers of boys on licence. Punishment book. Discharge books. Incidental return registers. Some photographs. Annual reports. School magazines. Miscellaneous items. Administrative & Financial records.

B’ham Archives revised opening days are Wed, Thurs, & Friday  due to forthcoming move ( Sept 2013)

The admissions register gives pretty detailed information - decription, nature of crime, sentence, names and address of parents, plus occasional additional information.  For an admission near to 1911 Birmingham Archives are the best peopl4 to contact. The registers have indexes, so they should be able to find the information you want pretty quickly.

My gt grandfather Abel Taylor B1809 in Lyndon End and lived Bickenhill.  I am trying to find out info on him and I see there is an Abel Taylor underEngland and Wales Criminal Registers, Birmingham for a person of that name and charged with Larceny and was sent to Saltley Reform School  in  1856.  How can I check that indeed it is my gt grandfather?  I was under the impression that he had died in 1853 but of course I could be wrong.  Thanks

Born 1809, he would have been 47 or thereabouts by 1856. Would he not have been too old?

Sorry I probably didnt realise it was just for young boys.  Yes of course he would have been too old.  Its not a common name so I just went along the lines of Abel Taylor and as he was declared insolvent in the 1840s thought he might have been him.   Many thanks.

I think div1984 has/is researching a similar family tree. Would it be possible to share information on Albert Henry Hill whose details appear to be the same as those I am researching?
I have looked up the Norton Reformatory School formerly Saltley, seems to tie in with my family research so far.
