I am searching for any information about Hugh Edwards, my husband's elusive 4th-great-grandfather. He has been a brick wall in our research for more than 10 years now. Here's what I do know about him:
He was born around 1778 - I have no idea where.
He married Jane Williams, daughter of Evan and Elinor Williams, on 23 September 1809 (I have copies of their marriage bond and marriage entry in parish records). They were married in the Bodwrog parish church. On the marriage license, Hugh Edwards' home was listed as Bodedern, but I have found no record of his birth there.
He eventually had leases on 6 houses in Bodedern that he in turn rented out. On the birth records of several of his children he is listed as a grocer or shopkeeper.
Hugh Edwards and Jane Williams had 7 children, 5 of whom lived to be adults. The first 6 were born in Bodedern, but by the time their last child was born, they had moved to Bodwrog-Isaf in Bodwrog parish.
Hugh Edwards died on 28 August 1826 and was buried at the Bodwrog Church next to his in-laws. I have a copy of his will.
Jane Williams later married Samson Thomas, who died in 1841 and was buried next to Hugh Edwards. Jane then emigrated to America with her children, settling in Cambria, Wisconsin.
So I have lots of information about Hugh Edwards' life, but no idea where he came from or who his parents are. I do know that he had a brother named Evan Edwards who was about 10 years younger than him.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!
Michelle
