Immigration Record -VICTORIA. COMPLETED
« on: Friday 17 February 12 05:41 GMT (UK) »
Requesting a look-up please at the Victorian Archives at Shiel Street, North Melbourne:  Job and Charles CLARK were aboard "Protector", when it arrived in Melbourne on 16th August 1853.  Reference for the fiche is Microfiche no 047, page 4.  Job was 13 years old, and Charles 20 years. I'm really hoping there is some interesting information about the brothers which will help tie them to their ancestry, or their plans for the future.
Excitedly awaiting for someone who also has work to do at the Archives, and can slot in my request.
Cheers,
Meredith

I doubt there will be any useful information as they were Unassisted Passengers. Sometimes occupations were listed.

Thanks, Cando. I was hoping that a bit more info. may have been put on the listing. Some of our South Australian shipping records show county of origin, which could have helped confirm Job as my ancestor.  Thanks for your advice.  Meredith.

RE; Job CLARK - thanks, Judith.  Yes, I have that Census record, so I was hoping the shipping list could confirm the county of origin. Pity we're searching such a common name, with variations of spelling thrown in!  I'm still trying to confirm the Charles Clark listed on the marriage certificate is the Foundry Owner from Mt Gambier.  Unfortunately, I'm caught by the common surname again, and didn't ask those questions before those with the personal knowledge died.  I'm fairly happy that Job and Charles, brothers, came together to Melbourne, then came across to Mt Gambier, and that this Job is my ancestor.  Just trying to firmly (and correctly) tie them up to the family in that Census record.
Thanks for your efforts,
Meredith

Hi from Adelaide , Australia , regarding Job & Charles Clarke , I am the grt grt grand daughter to their brother Richard Gowing Clarke , in the 1841 Cencus as Richard Clarke .

Richard Gowing Clarke married Mary Jane Harris in Malmesbury in 1851 , they emigrated to Adelaide in 1855 also with them was Daniel Clarke & Emma Clarke , thought Emma was a sister as it shows that both Daniel & Emma are single , maybe a wife to Daniel . Richard was a plumber , he & Mary Jane had 5 daughters in Adelaide . Think Thomas Clarke another brother emigrated as well as Thomas is mentioned in records of Adelaide .

Mary Jane was a daughter of Thomas Harris a carrier in the Malmesbury district , her brother's also carriers , Benjamin & Edmund .

A sister Elizabeth Harris married James Woodman , had William & Mary jane Woodman , both parents died young & William & Mary Jane emigrated to Adelaide  , lots more to tell , please get in touch , Margaret
