CANDISH Family of Elburton Plymstock Devon
« on: Thursday 16 February 12 19:13 GMT (UK) »
After several years of getting no where I have this week found the link between "my" Candish family of Ilsington / Bickington near Newton Abbot and the Candish family of
Elburton Plymstock Devon.

I wonder if anyone knows where I can obtain a transcription of the Plymstock Parish Registers 1591 - 1815?

There is an offer on Root.Chat for a look up service but the post seems to be locked.

To the best of my knowledge what you're asking for does not exist.
The Devon FHS have done marriages 1754 to 1813.
No baptisms transcribed before 1813
Many Plymouth & West Devon Record Office records are slowly appearing on Find My Past, so would be worth a look.

Have you looked at this website?

I can confirm that Plymstock PRs are now available online via FindMyPast, but although you can search for free, you have to subscribe to access the details. For the CANDISH name there are 98 baptisms, 76 marriages and 115 burials. You can also see an index at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~engdevon/Plymouth/plymstock.htm but unfortunately, the gentleman who compiled it has since passed away so look-ups cannot be provided from it.

Thanks to you both.

Yes, I have seen both website mentioned and was aware that the records are on FindMyPast, I was perhaps hoping for too much in that someone might know how to access them without paying a shedload to FindMyPast.

Hi again Terry

Thanks for the advice

I have tried my local library and they do not have free access to FindMyPast
