Tassie lookup for GAYLOR (COMPLETED)
« on: Wednesday 15 February 12 22:55 GMT (UK) »
Hello,      I am hoping some kind person can do a look up in Tasmania for me.
I am after a marriage certificate for William and Margaret Gaylor.
According to her death certificate they were married in White Hills near Launceston age unknown.    Her Victorian DCert states she died 3 May 1904 aged 78........but also says she was born in Nth Ireland where she spent 30yrs, 15 yrs in Tasmania and 15 yrs in Victoria which adds up to 60????. She had three daughters who are listed on the 1904 DCert as being aged
Ellen 54, Ada 43 and Eva 38. Ada was supposed to have been born in Tas. in 1860 but have not been able to get a birth certificate for that from TBDM. Maiden name for Margaret is listed as unknown but it is supposed to be Gee or maybe Morris. She was also supposed to have been married before which may account for the large gaps between the children.
I hope this enough info and that the dates are not too vague. Proving to be a hard person to trace.                   Thanks  Lauren

Many thanks Cando for the extra info. I know I have had some from here before and that was how I got onto Margarets death cert. and it had the place, White Hills, where they were married. The extra info I have now received helps even more. Also I don't think it can be Williams death unless he moved back to Tassie. Margaret died in Victoria aged 78. Haven't had a look for William yet. Can only do a bit at a time. Would love to be able to follow them all properly but can't.
Many thanks for the look up Regards Lauren :) :)

I am a bit puzzled here.....how do you know William and  Margaret moved to Victoria before 1876?  I wouldn't be dismissing this death as GAYLOR is an unusual name.

You mentioned the details from Margaret's death cert.  Information on death certificates is not always accurate.

Margaret arrived in Tasmania in 1845.
Married -date unknown - Henry GEE
Two children baptised 1846 and 1847.
Remarries Wm GAYLOR 1854
Two birth registrations of unnamed females 1860 and 1863.
Daughter Ada marries 1883 Victoria
Margaret dies Victoria 1904 aged 78 years.

Lauren

I think you have misinterpreted the information death certificate.  Looking at another Victorian death certificate in the period the columns are headed.....with your info inserted.

Where Born, and Years in the Colony stating which
Ireland.                30 years - 15 in Tasmania and 15 in Victoria.

What is in the column
IF THE DECEASED WAS MARRIED.
[1] Where, and at what [2] Age. and to [3] Whom.

Information on death certificates is only a good as the knowledge of the informant.  Who was the informant on Margaret's death cert?

Cheers
Cando

Hi Cando,        Ooops, Grey moment!! ::) I thought each entry was a seperate time zone!! That makes a big difference and yes it most probably is Williams death in 1876 aged 75 as he would have been born in 1801 so the age of 75 fits perfect. Margaret would  have been 50 at his death then  moved to Victoria in 1889 at age of 63. William is listed as a schoolmaster on his daughter Ada's wedding cert. 1883 in Vic. sooo I assumed he was there!!!! Ooops again! ::)
Her son-in-law Joseph Allen, Adas husband is the informant on Margarets death cert. Have sorted out a few knots and am doing a time line for her.  A hard life by the looks of it.
Many thanks Lauren :)
