George Bass surgeon & explorer

Hi, I've been trying to find out if George Bass had any siblings, without success so far sadly. I know he was born in 1771 in Aswarby, his parents were George and Sarah, formerly Newman, his father was a tenant farmer. I've been looking at the IGI for any possible siblings, it would be unusual if he was an only child in those days. My reason for asking is that I have a Susannah Bass in my family tree, she was the daughter of Stanton Bass & Susannah White, born in Gedney about 1800, I wondered if they might be connected, any help would be great, many thanks.

Describes that his father dies 1777.

Say he was an only child. And that his mother lived to be 92, dying 1828. This would have made her born around 1732 and therefore age around 41 when George was born.

I'm also tracing the Bass family from that area, have you found any links with John Bass Woodcock C1810 the later family often dropping the woodcock name on alternate census forms which has made tracking them hard work.

I too am researching the Bass family tree. I am directly descended from Stanton and Susannah. I am trying to make the association with George the explorer and William the brewer.  if you finally made the association , I'd be delighted to hear from you. thanx Mike

As a bit of background information, The Thomas Cowley High School in Donington had, maybe still does, have a house named after him.

I note mention of William the brewer. I am trying to trace the background of Palmer Bass, also a brewer and publican. He was in Otago, New Zealand from about 1864 or earlier and died in NZ in 1886. Any help would be much appreciated.
