McMillan family Auchinleck available(Sorry finished now).
« on: Saturday 14 May 05 13:37 BST (UK) »
I have just deleted the whole McMillan family tree that I researched as my grandmother turned up elsewhere.
Places associated with the tree are Lugar, Old Cumnock, St Quivox Ayr, Riccarton, Hurlford and Paisley, Renfrewshire.
The names involved are Cuthbertson, Morgan, Dickie and Colquhoun.
Anybody recognise them? Jill

I have a connection through the Morgans.  Jane Morgan, the sister of my gg-grandfather married a Cuthbertson and one of their children married a McMillan.  the information I have in this line has come from a distant connection whose tree I've joined to mine.

That would be great, thanks.  With a bit of luck I might be able to provide you with some missing data in return.

It would be useful to give you my personal email to excange gedcoms but I'm new to this site and don't know how to do that.

A bit off topic but you are the first McMillan's that I have found.  I have a Mary McMillan married to a William Kennedy. Cannot find anything on them.  I have infomation on their son William Kennedy born between1832-36.  He married Ann Gardener Andrews on Oct 30, 1863 in Calton, Glasgow, Renfrewshire.  He immigrated to the US in 1868 with wife and daughter Jessie Kennedy.  William was a block cutter by trade in the US.  Have a bit on them in the US.

Any how, do either of you know of any Kennedy connection?  I just cannot find any reference to the family any where.

Have you been getting your information from Scotlands People? I have been using them for all my Scottish genealogy but i had a really hard time with finding my Great Grandfather as his fathers name on his marriage certificate wasn't completely accurate so i had to find him the harder way via brothers and sisters.
If you can't find William Kennedy in the Births and Marriages try looking in the deaths on Scotlands People if you haven't already done so as if i remember rightly should tell you the wife's name, or you could look for his wife in the deaths and that would tell you her husbands name if William wasn't his birth name (i have Scottish relatives who always went by their middle name so were harder to trace)

Yes, tried Scotlands People to no avail.  Need to make more money before trying again.  There just does not seem to be a marriage between William Kennedy and Mary McMillan that I can find.  Also cannot find where the son was born.  Since the son William was born in the 1830's and they would have been married before statutory records, the parish records would be of little help.  I am not sure where the parents would have died so it is looking for a needle in a haystack.  The only thing I do know is William Kennedy the son called himself an engine keeper on his marriage certificate to Annie Andrews.  Also said his father William was an engine keeper and lived at Rutherglen Lane, Glasgow.

I only found out this week that my gr/gr/grandmothers maiden name was McMillian.
She was Mary and married John White 20th sept 1867 Ayr.
Their daughter Agnes was born in Tarbolton 1874.
Anyone recognize this

I've just noticed I put McMillian instead of McMillan, that will teach me to read it through properly before I post it
