Hi Gortonboy
Thank you somuch for that  information. the dates are about right and the Scottish origin ties in with what his grandaughter told me.     After what length of service would he expect to get a pension?
regards
Sharon

Hi,,,not sure of the qualifying period,,but this William would have recieved one,,,,this William Jardine was number 2683,,he joined up in 1828,,,served in India for 20 years,,,finished his service in 1848 in India. So it is possible that this William remained in India, the officer signing him off , states he was in Umballa at time of discharge.

"My" William Duffin Jardine had the children of his first marriage in Trikinopoly Madras and the second marriage all seems to have been in Calcutta.    I guess he could have gone anywhere after Umballa.
I really don't have much more to go on and I am lucky to have the second name of Duffin to tie in both the marriages. However, the Duffin is not mentioned in any army records I have seen nor is it on Scotlands People so I have come to a bit of a dead end.

Hi Sharkey

I think I may be able to help.

I have collected around 200 trees containing 16000 names associated with the name Jardine.

A family in Canongate, Edinburgh may contain your William Duffin Jardine.  The parents were Robert Jardine (b. 1772 Canongate) and Ann Amory Stewart (b. 2 Feb 1772, Tynemouth). They were married 31 Oct 1797 in Canongate.

They had nine children; the sixth being James Duffin Jardine, b. 1805 and the seventh William, b. 8 Apr 1807 in Canongate.

I have no proof that William Duffin is the above William but it seems likely as the other facts in previous posts appear to support this.

I hope it gives you a start.

Hi I am related to William Duffin Jardine. He was a career soldier and was in about three regiments. He married my great great grandmother Jane Jardine who was part Indian in 1835 in Trichonopoly.
Then his daughter Margaret who had married twice but both had died shortly after marriage so she was Margaret Penny when she married my great grandfather David Imrie in 1865 in Calcutta.  My grandfather William Matthew Imrie was born in India, my father Bruce Berriff Imrie was born in England but grew up for 21 years in India. Before he and his parents, brother and sisters moved to the UK.
