We know these Sheridans were alive in 1883 but what happened next? Help please!

John Sheridan that entered the army - I'm sure this is his father, sister and niece in 1901

Wow, Tara. we never expected to find John Sheridan, my husband's great-great-grandfather alive in the 1901 and the Mary Sheridan daughter and Anne Kenny grand-daughter would seem to clinch it. And they are in the right place.

It is the first time we have come across Anne Kenny however. Her date of birth would be 1890 which would make her the oldest of William and Rose Ann's children. Do we need to check her out to be 100% sure?

Hiya,

The ages on census are notorioulsy wrong so I would say she was born 1891 - they year after her parents were married. The fact that her name was Anne is good as she was obviously named after Anne Winters Sheridan.

Thomas and Rose Ann's daughter Winifred was born in 1891 so it possibly would have to be 1890. Thomas and Rose Ann weren't young when they married by any means.

Mary Sheridan is in the same house in 1911 (although she does seem to have aged more slowly than the rest of us(!) but her niece this time is named as Annie KELLY as opposed to Kenny. Misheard by the enumerator? And if she's still there, she obviously wasn't visiting in 1901!

This looks like it may the death of John Sheridan Senior

It states that his age at death was abt 78 so this would tie in with the 1901 census.

In doing Irish 'country' trees I have come across time and again where the first born child of a couple was sent to live with the grandparents. It was a tradition of sorts. I have been lead to believe that this was to help the 'elderly' couple when they got older - but someone else may have a better explanation.
