Thanks Althea, Have emailed Te Aroha Museum to see if that is correct that they hold the microfilms as they are not mentioned on their website (or perhaps I could not see it!).
Cheers

Hi Kathy

Regret to say that there is no newspaper for Te Aroha for c25 July 1901 held at National Library - regardless what the National Library Catalogue says:

'Aroha & Ohinemuri News and Upper Thames advocate' 1885-1917
1900-1907  <6814-6815>

The catalogue entry implies there is a complete run of papers from 1900-1907. In fact, the run is very patchy and there is only one issue held for 1901 - 5 dec.

The reference book you need - and I couldn't access it today as it had wandered off somewhere - is D R HARVEY's List of New Zealand newspaper holdings (c1987). He listed the newspapers by place and then paper title, then listed the holdings, not just libraries but also museums, historical societies, etc. Most good-sized libraries have a copy.
Best wishes
Elli

Thanks Elli for trying.  Another poster said that Hamilton City Library recorded that Te Aroha Museum has microfiche copies.  I emailed the Museum to ask if this was correct,  Got a reply tonight to say yes that is correct they have microfiches.  I have next week off on holiday so will drive over and see if they have more than one copy of 1901!!
Cheers

Hi Elli
I went to Te Aroha today, and as suspected got the same result as National Library, only that one issue in 1901.  However, I was able to look up some later issues so there was a positive.
Many thanks for your help.  I'm marking this off as COMPLETED,
Cheers
Kathy
