Te Aroha News - 1901 lookup * COMPLETED *
« on: Saturday 11 February 12 07:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am trying to see if there is anything in the Te Aroha News about the death of my gg grandmother, Elizabeth O'Donoghue, died 25 July 1901 in Te Aroha, buried 28 July 1901 in Te Aroha.
Unfortunately paperspast only goes to 1889.
Alternatively, if someone could tell me where to find archives of the Te Aroha News for this era I would be happy to go and look for myself, I am in Hamilton, NZ.  I would also be interested in looking at the fiches as I have another generation that it would be interesting to find any articles about.
Thanking you in advance,
KathyN

Hi, it looks as though there is a copy of this publication in the Alexander Turnbull in Wellington.

Hi Kathy,

Welcome to Rootschat. :)

You could send an email to the AT Library asking if they would send you a copy of the article.

Scroll down to the Research questions and click on email the librarian.

Cheers

I knew I had seen something about Te Aroha News on the board earlier in the year, so did a search of the threads on here.

Lets see if the volunteer who responded to that thread sees this and responds before you get in touch with AT Library.

Hi

I can do this lookup for you mid-this week - have already got a mountain of microfilms to look at on Monday!! and will, no doubt, run out of time that day.

Best wishes
Elli

Thank you, Elli whenever you get a chance would be lovely.  Would you be able to tell me where the public can access the microfilms for Te Aroha News?
Thanks in anticipation.
Kathy

Many of the local libraries will have microfilms of their district newsppers..worth checking library catalogues
eg Auckland and Hamilton have a lot of titles

If there is a particular paper you want..check the National library index and see if they have an interloan copy
for the charge of a normal interloan they will send you a copy of the film that you can view at your local library (if it has a microfilm machine that is!!

Thank you Althea for the explanation.   I see that Hamilton library website says it has some older newspapers but does not list what they are, will go and see them when I am in town and see if they have the Te Aroha News.
