Hi again,
Carol, I noticed on the list of children for Rachel and Paul Brown, there are two named Paul.  One born 19.05.1744 and the other 08.05.1750.  Did the first one die, do you think or is it a mistake somewhere along the line?

Yes, the first Paul died sadly:

Paul son of Paul & Rachel, buried 21 May 1744 at Eastwood.

The good news is that all of the other children seem to have survived infancy.

Samuel BROWN Married Elizabeth CARLIN, 17 July 1783, Eastwood, Nottingham, England
(Source Familysearch.Org, Extracted Record)

Now there was another Samuel BROWN who Married an Elizabeth MOOR, 25 August 1783, East Retford, Nottingham as well.

IGI has these Submitted Children to Samuel/Elizabeth at Eastwood, Nottinghamshire;
REBECCA 18 Jan 1785
PHILLIS 25 March 1792###
ELZABETH 19 Feb 1795
SAMUEL 13 May 1798
SAMUEL 01 Jan 1801
ELIZABETH 06 Sept 1801
Eliza 25 Dec 1804
I cant confirm these.

There are 27 BROWN Marriages in Eastwood on FreeREG during the 1700's.
Also a few CARLIN Marriages, who may be Siblings of Elizabeth c 1779-1802.

Hi,
Thanks everyone for all the great info.  You know, I've been on Freereg but EVERYTHING I've searched has come back with "no matches found for this query"  I'm obviously doing something wrong because other people find this a useful tool.  Any ideas?"

Re FreeREG, not all records are there as it is transcribed by Volunteers. They are being added too all the time.
I only mentioned a few records for yor Family/possible Family are on there.
Sometimes when searching there you may have to use the soundex option.
Are you using;

Hi Trish,
Yes, I'm using the soundex option - although I don't know what that is.  I'll keep trying.

Have a look at http://www.ancestryhost.org/andymick/walk2b.pdf where someone has done quite a bit on Paul Brown and Rachel Mee. (page 2.4 on their charts). Paul Brown jr married Ann Mee 13 sept 1783 Eastwood. For a long time I thought I was descended from this family from Paul & Ann's son Joseph until I looked at burial records to find he was buried as an infant! Now think I might be descended from Thomas Brown (soldier) who married Martha Carlin 1st Dec 1783 at Eastwood. However can't find where Thomas might have been from.
Good luck - there are many Brown's in that area.
