Guernsey any info Brown/Pharo
« on: Saturday 14 May 05 10:25 BST (UK) »
Hi All

My first island connection.  Any information on Edward Pharo and his bride Annie Brown.  They married in Sydney in 1899 but apparently came from Guernsey.  I guess they were probably born 1870's or early 80's.  Sorry but that's all I have - newly discovered elderly relative  - these were her grandparents.

Any help gratefully received.

dear all

thanks for reading - further research since this post suggests Edward was probably from Surrey - in which case only Annie Brown was from Guernsey.  family legend suggests she and her family came out not long before their marriage in 1899.

since annie browns are very common people I am not expecting this post to go anywhere.

thanks for your time

There is an Annie Brown, born c1874 on Guernsey.  She is living in the household of Jerome Porter and family and is listed as a Nurse (domestic).  If you think you would like the image please PM me your email address.

Hi

I have had a look at the 1881 census for Guernsey and there is only one Annie born c 1874.

Robert Brown c1843
Martha Brown c 1848
Annie c 1874

Hope this may help

thanks everyone

now I have to ask a really dumb question - my only excuse is that I am Australian and have no idea of where Guernsey is (until tonight I didn't know how to spell it).  I've only had families on the mainland up till now.

Where is Guernsey and how big is it.  Is there just the one "Parish" or are there multiple different communities on the one island.  If this is the only Annie Brown on the island, how likely is it to be the RIGHT annie brown?

Dear Kim,
I have just done a search tonight on the name Pharo via Google and i have ended up here. I am not sure if i am replying to KIM or ? but this message is for KIM.
I am a Pharo descendant. My mother is a Pharo. All the names you have listed above I know or know of. My mum knows much of it. Especially the French connection with the Browns. I went there 2 years and got a copy of the birth certificate. I am really unsure of who you are but would love to talk to you. I am also 42 so i am guessing we possibly distant cousins.  My mother knows lots of the Pharo...please write back to me and I one day we could perhaps talk on the phone to simplify things.
Regards, Genelle G (Sydney, Australia).
