Matt, Graham,

Many thanks for your input. The Royal Pioneer Corps/Lancastria link was particularly useful.

Thank you everyone for your time and help.

Hi Nick

I'm looking for info on Herbert Pattinson 4381206, I would be very interested to hear from you & know if he is related to you. Herbert was my mother father & my granddad.

Good afternoon Jenny,

Thanks for your message. I think I can probably help you, but I shall have to get my head back into genealogy as I have had to put it on a back burner for some while. If you wouldn't mind giving me a helping hand, could you tell me what you know of Herbert's line, the name of his wife for example and anything further. You can contact me via a Private Message if you wish.

There is very probably a link which may go back to a common relative in the 19th century. I have quite an extensive history of the Pattinson family on file.

Regards,

Nick

Hi Nick
Thank you for replying, sorry but I don't have much of anything on Herbert's side other than he originated from Ormesby Middlesbrough I think.  He married Jane Anne Fawcett from Guisborough in 1918.
His Fathers name was James Pattinson he was a miner at that time. Herbert gained a trio of medals + the Militry Medal in ww1. Hope this helps for now.
Regards
Jenny.

I am sorry that I have only  discovered this thread today.

I can see that you have marked it as Completed.

I  used to live next door  to  Jim Dunbar,  the Chief Engineer   on the Lancastria.

I have got the book "The Forgotten Tragedy"   which is the story  of the sinking of the Lancastria.
Herbert Pattison  (MM)    Cpl     is listed at Appendix  1   of that book.
