A nickname question

A 1901 Matlock census record shows a young girl with the name 'Effie'. Would this have been a nickname and if so, what could have been her name?

A friend of ours is called Effie and her birth name is Ethel. However another aunt was birth named Ethel and she was called 'tet' - Durham and Northumberland area.

Sometimes a nickname can come about because a small child can't pronounce the name properly.   Having said that I think Effie is the pet name for Euphemia.

You do not give a surname if I have the correct "Effie", the only one in Matlock in 1901 Census,
then her Birth Registration was as Winifred Effie Dale, June Q 1900 Bakewell 7b 839.

I also have 'Yfke' from a Danish friend. Somewhat more copmpliacted than I thought but Spendlove - you do indeed have the correct Effie Dale. I haven't seen anywhere a reference to Winifred... but

Hi,

Sorry not allowed to give the details from the 1911 Census but on this Census she is named WINNEFRED
and is living with her Grandmother and her unmarried Aunt.

Although in the 1901 Census Samuel Dale = Ellen Botham 1896, states he was born in Matlock on previous
census birth place is given as Elton, Derbyshire, which is were the family were living in the 1871 census ref
RG10/3629 F 30 Pg 3.

You will also see on this census Hannah Dale age 10, the Aunt with whom Effie is living in 1911.

On the 1891 Census Manchester RG12/3269 F 155 Pg 48, Hannah Dale age 30 born Crich, Derbyshire is living with her Brother John aged 35 born Brassington, Derbyshire.
