Hi, and WELCOME to Rootschat!

Do You mean the school?

Any particular target period?

Any other particular building?

If it is an historical query how did you arrive at the post code?
Googleview not enough?

What have you already got (saves duplication of effort, etc..)

Ray

Hi Ray,

i don't mean the school. i am looking for information on the buildings at the top of the bend of the road. i have seen maps from around 1930 and up to 1960 showing more buildings than are currently there and i was hoping to find out what type of buildings they were. they would have been part of the tyttenhanger estate ( or tittenhanger) and could possibly have been a farm? after 1960 (the last dated map i can trace) they disappear, possible due to road changes (m25) etc etc.

google earth doesn't go back far enough

i have been searching in vain to try to trace parish rates but with no success.

any help is much appreciated.

ps

the duplicate thread is because this area  definatly came under middx before it came to be in herts

hope that helps

Hi

Herts Genealogy, has it that part(s) of the area came within Middx in 1861.
You are talking about 1930-1960

Ridgehill to Tyttenhanger is about 2-3km and "between the 2" were brickworks, Salisbury Hall, ancient moats to list the first 3 springing to mind.
http://www.rootschat.com/links/0k5n/  may be  a good place to start.

Why not clip and paste here a part of a map showing the detail of the exact part you are thinking of?

Cheers
Ray

Hi Ray,

that link doesn't work for me ??

the map i'm using is from  www.old-maps.co.uk/maps html

it wont let me clip and paste  :(

type in the post code wd7 9bg  and choose ridgehill stables.

then choose the map from the choices on the right. the one i'm refering to was the 1960 post - ww II

if you click the enhanced zoom ( zoom in 3 clicks) and look at the very centre of the map that is the area i'm talking about.

there are two buildings?? and a pond ??  about  20mm above the letters LP. those are what i am enquiring about as they no longer exist.

sorry for the longwindedness of this but i'm not particularly PC literate !!

again i appreciate all help

thanks

Jerry

(link didn't work 4 me either)
Try      http://www.hertfordshire-genealogy.co.uk  instead?

Could it have been a "menage"? Looks like a modern one now?

Ridge Hill Stud & Riding Centre
Ridge Ridge Hill Radlett WD79BG (01707) 643377

Why not ring them and see if anyone there knows?

Whoops, Sorry, something went awry with the pasting of the link.
I've corrected the original now, you may use either.

the current property was sold to them around 1974 from the tyttenhanger estate or the caledon estate. they have no recollection of the buildings i'm looking for which are quite visible on the 1960's map.

i seem to be going round in circles using the links provided.

i've searched under ridge hill / ridgehill / ridgehill farm / stables etc

any more thoughts or ideas much appreciated

thanks

Jerry
