Interesting from Cando's post to see that Samuel Livesley Phillips arrived in SA from NSW in the first few years of Colonization.

It's all a mystery to me Gerry. I read in an article that tedscout pointed out to me yesterday that Samuel Livesly Phillips was in partnership in the South Australian Shipping Company. I have only really done research on the Thomas Dickinson Phillips whom was a son of Samuel's down so far. Now I am trying to fill the branches in above Samuel.

Mmmm - did think he could be a convict but I can't find him. Been working and haven't had time to look for more things.

South Australia was a FREE state - no convicts.

My hubby has a convict who went to SA as with a survey teamand was given a pardon to go, because there were no convicts in SA.

Lots of convicts ended up in Victoria and SA to "reinvent" themselves.

what I have been trying to do s work out where the "Livingsley" came from and whether one of the "Samuel Phillips - convict" could be him.

I have never really thought of the possibility of Samuel being a convict but then again if he was trying to reinvent himself it would have been a good place to do so I guess.

Hubby has 2 convicts - 1 went to Vic the other to SA. They both became wealthy land owners and noteable citizens. So don't rule anything out.

PHILLIPS Samuel (Livesley?) arrived 1839-06-23 on Ganges from London
according to South Australian Passenger Lists. I found 7 Samuel Phillips in the convicts lists but none of the dates corresponded with his arrival. Now I tend to think maybe he wasn't a convict, but am probably totally wrong too.

Hi,

Brief mention of Mr Phillips the agent to Lloyds September 1841.

Maybe he was sent out by Lloyds of London as one of their agents and was located in Port Adelaide!
