What can I say to ALL this overwhelming information that I could have never found on my own especially living in Canada. My family tree book will be a wonderful legacy for all of my family's grandchildren. You have solved many an endless search on my part and I cannot express my  gratitude enough for everything you have done. I'm in tears over this and you have made my day! One last question and I will leave you to rescue another frustrated soul. Are allof these relatives in the same cemetery so that I may list them accordingly in their profiles? I take it the Cemetery name is just called Egremont Cemetery. if you come across any pictures that would colour the pages I have then I would be forever I your debt.

Bless you,
Jan

Yes, all in Egremont Cemetery. North Road. Egremont This aerial view shows part of the Cemetery.

Martin and Rachel had a son called Martin born 26 March 1909 in Egremont died Salford July 1991  He was an English rugby league footballer of the 1920s and '30s. He was, without doubt, one of the game's greatest ever second row forwards and represented both Cumberland and Great Britain on many occasions, and also toured Australasia in 1932 and 1936 with the Great Britain tourists.

Sandra, This is perfect! I knew about young Martin Hodgson and had his stats on his profile. It is nice to have an accomplished and  memorable family member in my tree. It has been delightful working with you and I am thrilled to have found your look-up offer on Rootschat.

Thanks are not enough,

Jan

Hello Sandra,
These pictures are so touching and very welcomed. You have made my day yet again.
I do have a question though. In yesteday's thread you posted the burial of Elizabeth Hodgson, mother of Martin but I wonder if there is a grave reference for her as we might have missed that.
I truly appreciate your contributions so much more than I can say!
Thank you for keeping my family in mind while you are working.

Best regards,
Jan

Yes, reply 15 for Elizabeth Hodgson - the grave ref is on there - put it on a little later.

Hi Sandra,
I've come across a probate for another James Hodgson of 63 North Road  wife named Hilda. He died Dec 13, 1950, close to the death of another James Hodgson. It's ironic that so many of my family are called James Hodgson which are at that residence there were two cousins plus Martin Hodgson's son. All are born with 10 years of each other. Can you look and see if you have a James Hodgson with a wife Hilda as I don't have her in my tree yet but the address tells me she's family.
With so many James Hodgson marriage records during that time, I cannot identify which were my ones. The grave search has helped immensely to narrow that down.

Again I appreciate your time,

Jan

James Hodgson died 13 December 1950 (probated 8 Feb 1951) was buried 16 December 1950. Grave Ref L Con 122 - purchased in 1943. Address 63 North Road. Egremont
He would appear to the son of Martin and Rachel born 1899 and aged 51 years.
Perhaps this James married March 1937 to Hilda Greenop at Cockermouth 10b 1098, it was the only match with a Hilda I came across. Unfortunately did not come across any burial for a Hilda Hodgson

The James in reply 33 buried 13 November 1950 A Con 59 was the son of James Hodgson and Elizabeth Sewell. Address 20 North Road. Egremont.

Sandra, Thanks again for keeping my dates straight. There are even more James Hodgsons in that time frame. This is what happens when Elizabeth has 9 children and each one has a son James. I need a huge spreadsheet to see them all. Priscilla Hodgson Cavanagh was Priscilla Jenkinson prior to a Cavanagh. She had a son James Hodgson Jenkinson b1878 and lived at 55 North Road. After he left home and his mother remarried he changed his surname back to Hodgson which makes it difficult to find him again. Would you have a burial record for that one?

I am starting to look at another son of Elizabeth named William 1870 and possibly died 1918 address 87 Main Street. He had a wife Hannah Parks. b.1876 and possible death 1959.

Another William Hodgson b.1898 in S Africa and died July 1995. Wife Olive Mary possible death 1963. One male child unknown info.

If your up for it I am looking for Priscilla's sister Agnes Hodgson Banks b1867 and poss death 1945 - address Ribton Side Whitehaven. Husband Joseph Banks -  had a butcher shop.

If your swamped with  other requests you don't need to jump to this :) I could do it later if possible.

Thank you again,
Jan
