« on: Tuesday 07 February 12 17:39 GMT (UK) »

My great grandfather was a "restaurenteur", this is on most census returns, and also the valuation rolls.

on the 1901 census, he is down a potter(fire clay), and then the next time we see him is on the 1911 census as a restauranteur, then again on his son edwards marraige cert for 1918 he is also a restauranteur.

I have looked at the post office directories, but cant seem to find him....

can anyone help with this?

regards

Paul, it's like drawing teeth! Tell us his name and location, it may help pin him down.
Round about 1900 the pottery industry in Glasgow experienced a huge slump from which it never recovered (it was the second largest industry in 19th century Glasgow). So perhaps he lost his job at that time and went into catering.
