This works and gives accurate 0.5" squares so thank you very much.

So, why cannot I do that in Word etc. Not the printer at fault!

I think that that one is a pdf doc, so it prints as it is seen. Word adjusts. 

Just for interest, have you tried re-doing it in Word (7-10)  and then saving to pdf and printing from that - it might work.

Can you stop Word self adjusting? What is it adjusting to?

Not sure and I've been using Word in it's various versions since the flood!  I don't think it's fully WYSIWYG and adjusts to your printer. I note that it says something about 'nominal setting'. I don't use it as much these days but I remember that it used to be a B at times when doing work with colleagues,etc.

I think that's why they've introduced the pdf format in the Save  As options

Just bookmarking, as I'm having a similar problem aligning things in Word & Powerpoint - both, as you will note, Microsoft products!!
