SPENCER, Harriett nee DEED, Burial Site??
« on: Monday 06 February 12 04:51 GMT (UK) »
Where is Harriett Spencer nee Deed buried? I know she died 5 June 1865, New Tiers, South Australia from South Australian Register (Newspaper) 26 June 1865, DEATH NOTICE
SPENCER - On the 5th June June at New Tiers, Harriet, wife of Mr. William Spencer, aged 47years. Where is New Tiers and is there a cemetery near by? I've looked at all the online listings i can find for SA with no luck. Her husband died 21 years later, 1886 in Vic and is buried in Lilimur. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi weemalla :)

I can't vouch for its veracity, but the data comes from Geoscience Australia so I would guess it's kosher - this map shows the location of New Tiers:

Hi weemalla

I cannot offer any cemetery info but wanted to let you know that my husband is a descendant of Samuel Edward Spencer, eldest son of William and Harriet (nee Deed) Spencer.

Would love to have email contact if you are willing and discuss your connection.

Cheers
Eva

New Tiers is the Adelaide Hills area, there are several cemeteries maintained by the Adelaide Hills Council:

Harriet Deed/ Spencer
William and Harriet Spencer owned land at Tregarthen, between Summertown and Ashton in the Adelaide hills, very close to the site of  Aston cold store.

I am also searching for Harriet's grave and her twin boys  Thomas & Joseph.
I think they will be in an unmarked grave on the land they owned or close by.
I believe I have checked every cemetery in the Hills and  Adelaide that may have some records of them.
There doesn't seem to be any christening or burial records  for the Spencer's over that period, some of the Deed children died in the same area, also unmarked graves as far as I know.
William Spencer's grave in Lillimur also unmarked. Ken
