Henry Rainey
« on: Sunday 05 February 12 17:11 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone shed some light on

Henry Rainey born around 1817 in Eden, Antrim, Nth Ireland, his father was John Rainey and his mother Mary ?

Henry married and had 4 children, that we know about- John (b 1842), Jane (b 1849, d 1887 married James mcCaldridge), Henry (b1855, d 1932, maried Eliza about 1881), James (b1858).

Then on 15 Jan 1859 in Kilrea, Londonderry, N. Ireland Henry Rainey (b 1817) married Eliza Borland, they had a son Daniel Rainey

My question is: Can anyone help me find out who Henry married firstly and who is the mother to the 4 children?

Many thanks in advance

This is probably the townland Eden near Ballymoney?
Unfortunately the 1st marriage is before the start of civil registration so it's probably a matter of searching local church records to see if they go back far enough and if the marriage took place there- quite a few churches to chose from in that area.
Did any of the children marry and/or die outside of Ireland? (Scotland for example has lots of details on their certificates)

Hi Aghadowey,
as far as I am aware, it was Henry's son in law (James McCaldridge / Alexander) who moved to Scotland after the death of Jane Rainey (Henry's daughter in 1887), he re married a Jane Mulholland (1888) in Ireland before they left.
James's marriage to Jane Rainey was found with a typographical error , with her surname being recorded as Leaney, living in Ballinaboly, Finvoy. Her father Henry (Leaney) a weaver.

I had also carried out a search on www.emeraldancestors.cm for Leaney and this was not fruitful at all.

Many thanks

If any of the children had gone to a place where names of both parents were recorded on marriage/death certificates it might have been possible to find name of 1st wife.

Looks like you need to search for church records- bearing in mind that marriages usually take place in bride's church.
