Where is Louisa Spofford after 1901 Please?
« on: Sunday 05 February 12 15:53 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

Can anyone help me to find out what happened to Louisa after 1901 census, where she was visiting her brother Charles in Aston Birmingham, please.

She was born in Sheffield March 1882  to Francis Spofford and his wife Mary Ellen Ibbotson. They died before 1891 and Louisa and her sister Annie were sent to live in the Cherrytree orphanage in Totley. Brother Charles was sent to a Boys home then went to live in Birmingham area when discharged.

Her sister Annie married a Gledhill and lived in Leeds.

Possible one on 1911 in Leeds but that says she was born Birmingham. Also on the 1911 there is a child Charles being nursed by another family. I wondered if she had had a child out of marriage.

I am struggling to find a marriage or death that fits her!

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

There does not seem to have ever been another birth registration for anyone of that name (or slight variations thereof) apart from the lady registered in Ecclesall Bierlow in 1882.

There does not seem to have ever been a marriage registration for a Mr Spofford to a Louisa (or slight variations of either name).

Therefore, any death registration for the name Louisa Spofford (or slight variation thereof) stands a good chance of being her (wherever it was located). With that in mind, the following is a possibility ....

1921 Q1 Croydon 2a 462 - Louisa Spoffard, aged 38

Many thanks Glen, we have reached the same conclusion!
There is also another one in Hull in the 1930 or 40's from memory.

Also, the suspected son died in Watford in the 1970's I have discovered, so perhaps the Croydon one might be a good guess if they connect.

If only the Electoral Rolls covered these areas! ::)

There is a death registration in 1952, at Hull, for a Louisa Spofforth who was born c1882 but I think that this person was probably born as Louisa White and married Amos Spofforth in 1903.
